New folk band in Kent

Experienced and lively folk dance caller looking to form a new band for Barn Dances and Ceilidhs in Kent/London. Competent melody or rhythm instrumentalists warmly welcomed.

I’m based between Folkestone and Dover. Starting from scratch at the moment, but anticipate a four/five possibly six piece. Not really fussy about instruments. I’d like to put together a group of musicians who really enjoy entertaining others and are not too hung up about being ‘traditional’.

Melody – flute/whistle/violin/melodeon/accordion/tenor banjo/mandolin
Rhythm – keys/banjo/guitar
Bass – string or electric
Drums – traditional kit/ bodhran/cajon
Looking for flexible musicians who are willing to play a variety of folk dance music – mainly English/Irish/Scots but also international and music hall tunes.

I have a PA which is powerful but small and easy to transport. So instrument and pickups needed, plus some sort of foldback – probably personal type or in-ear. You will need your own transport.

I have a big library of music, some of which is already digitised so is easy to distribute.

I also have access to website building expertise.

Anticipate fairly regular rehearsals (weekly/fortnightly) until we get going and then fewer – or if it works meet in a pub session to
keep sharp. I guess it really depends on who responds to post. I would think that if the post attracts some quality players we could be gigging within a couple of months

If you have like minded musical colleagues please pass this on.
